Manebu Industries Navigates Global Supply Chain Challenges with Resilience

As international trade routes tightened and raw material prices surged, manufacturers around the world struggled to maintain operations. Manebu Industries, a producer of cooking oil and laundry soap based in Bugesera, was no exception.

However, rather than cutting back or halting production, Manebu took swift action to adapt its procurement and pricing models to meet the moment.

“We were hit hard by rising energy costs and delays in the importation of raw materials,” a Manebu representative told Rwanda Today. “But we knew our products were essential for households, so shutting down was not an option.”

Manebu worked closely with local suppliers where possible, restructured production schedules, and made strategic choices to maintain the affordability and availability of its products, including the popular Fry Mama, Hom, and Dabo cooking oils, and Manebu bar soap.

This period not only tested the company’s resilience but also reinforced the need for investment in local manufacturing capacity to reduce reliance on external markets.

“The pandemic taught us that Rwanda’s self-reliance depends on strengthening homegrown industries. That’s a future Manebu is proud to be part of.”
